Week 36: No I Am Not Having A Baby And No I Do Not Have Cancer

Image
There were two moments this week I thought I was going to go home. Both of which were sorta kinda not my fault at all.  First, during a Service Project last week I fell and cut a long shallow gash on the front of my shin. It was quite the epic fall. I fell over a little wall, then down about two feet straight onto my back in a puddle of dirty water. It left a long trail of blood down my shin. It was all good till a litte later on it got a nasty infection. Luckily Hermana Calderwood is the goat and we got that all treated up.  Then... just as soon as we got my leg figured out we went to the hospital for my wrist. I had woken up a couple of weeks before and it had just been throbbing and it still hurt a couple weeks later, so we went to get it checked out. Turns out it was not a little wrist fissure like we thought, but a synovial wrist cyst. According to what little knowledge I could glean from Meta AI it happens to about 1 in a 100,000 people with the odds only slighly going u...

Week 35: Trunky Hermanas And Priesthood Power

Image
You would think after 8 months as a missionary I would figure out how to be a good consistent email writer.  Guess not because last week I just totally forgot.  To start, we had quite a traumatic turn of events when we found out that Hermana Tejedor had to leave for health concerns to finish her mission in Panama. As soon as we found out, we went and bought an emergency Acai She found out on Monday and then left the next day.  It really made appreciate this delicate precious time that I have served as a missionary. Because for this Hermana, a real friend of mine, after two transfers sharing an area, just left. Just like that. Milena, our brazillian friend, got baptized by her husband! The Wendesday before her baptism we had a poweful lesson and invited her to act in faith after 5 years with the missionaries and to be baptized. Her husband, a returned missionary baptized and confirmed her. Not gonna like it made the two Hermanas in our ward Trunky This week I had two power...

Week 35: Fetch

Let the good times roll.

Week 34: Que Kachiãi

When the lights and electricty of the whole town go out the morning before Church, you know it will be a memorable Sunday.  And it sure was.  Without air conditioning, lights or a speaker the sacrament meeting began. A faithful congergation waving makeshift fans to cool down. The Paraguayo Missionaries on the this email list would understand the brutality of sitting for 30 minutes in the un conditioned chapel till half way through the meeting, the lights turned on again. To be honest it was a precious experience for me, the windows were open shining in natural light into the chapel. The Spirit was there as the people, sweating a little, took there seats and listened to the prelude music I got to play. There genuine comittment and faithfullness to come to church, without lights, some without water in their houses inspired me. Would I have come to church back home? Would you have gone? Knowing it could be 90+ degrees the whole meeting? The lights and air did evenutally come back...

Week 33: Sunday Miracles And Little Violins

Image
To be brief. Heyy how are you guys? It has been a wild week.  Tuesday, I had divisions with the OG Elder Bean. Dang we had a good time. It was awesome to reflect on everything that has happened since we were missionaries in the MTC over 6 months ago. Speaking of which, sorta a fun milestone but yesterday marked six months living in the country of Paraguay and we got to eat pizza on the roof and look at the stars Oh also there's a toucan at there pension. dooh dooh dooh  I love Sundays. And yesterday was no different. Two Ateos came to church. Two people who told us SUNDAY MORNING that they were not going to come to church came. And my dear friend Carolina Caceres got baptized. Truly the Lord is one of Miracles.  Carolina, as I explained a couple weeks back I think, was found by a miracle. We prayed. And then followed an impression to visit a purple house further up the road. We began to talk to Carolina, and she was arguing with us about doctrines reading from revela...

Week 32: The Devil's Got My Bike!!

Image
Haupei.  Another wild week.  - Earlier this week, I got the chance to teach a family of Athesits. There questions where profound and when we got there we started a deep doctrinal discussion which got cut short cause we had another lesson to go to. But, they are accpeting the lessons and next time we go by we are planning to blow their minds with the Plan of Salvation. - I also got to teach the gospel in English for the first time in my life. We are teaching this man named Gustavo who teaches English for a living, and his son, Givoanni litterally was born in New Jersey and speaks better English then Spanish. So, we taught a lesson about Baptism and the Book of Mormon in English. And he said he'd come to church! - Then, on Friday Morning, we went out with an ex-missionary from our mission, who served here 5 years ago. We were walking along when this guy stopped his bike trailer thing, and told me I had a weapon on me. Dumbfounded, I sorta just stared at him. Then he pointed at t...
