Week 30: The Purple House

Image
I won't take long today.  God is one of miracles.  Yesterday we had the Baptism of Rosa.  Her conversion story is one of the most wonderful miracles I have ever seen. We found her as an answer to prayer. On the first day of the year, it was hot and no one was out in the streets. We said a prayer and felt strongly impressed to visit a purple house a little up the street.  We did so and were let in. Initally, we were teaching Rosa's mom Carolina and she was pulling out obscure Bible verses and combating doctrine and it got to a point that I looked over to Elder Stringam and in English said "This is not going anywhere, we need to leave." Elder Stringam says "Thank you for your time to Carolina" and as we get up to LITTERALY leave the house and probably never come back. She says "One more thing..." and completly opens up on the things that were really hard in her life. We testifed that Jesus Christ lived and he loved her and her family. Specfically, we...

Week 29: Gosh It's Hot.

Image
Gosh it's hot out here. Like you got the sun and just below that is the obscure south american jungle country that I am living in. And allegedy it only gets worse. Anyways, it's been quite the week.  Tuesday, I turned 19 and a little later this last week I hit 200 days. Both of which were a little surreal. 19 feels fetchin old. For my birthday we had consejo de distrito and I got a cake smashed mercilessly into my face and I also had divisions with Elder Thomas in the rain, dropped some fechas and ended with lomitos at a resturant that also had an nba game playing. The rest of the week was a grind.  Friday I had an interesting experience. We were contacting and didn't have alot of direction so we both stopped, prayed and each of us picked a house we felt prompted to contact on our map. A little later, we contacted a house and an older lady and her son let us in. We taught a lesson about the Book of Mormon, and at the end asked if she would like one, and up to this point eve...

Week 28: If I Lose My Phone Again I Swear...

Image
Won't take too long today.  Life is wonderful. Our ward is thriving with a finally consistent Noche de Barrio and I have loved getting to serve as a District Leader. Friday we had a conference with Elder Costa of the Seventy, and during it President Calderwood taught about pilots that divebombed in world war 2, and how like them, we as missionaries always have to be focused on our divine mission. I loved the scripture Elder Costa would go on to share in Doctrine and Covenants 88:67 "And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light" When our focus is on Christ, then we will shine, brilliar!  Sunday we had 7 friends in church and honestly was the most spirtual and wonderful sacrament meeting I have had on my mission. Otherness: - Moved out the Hermanas  - Lost my Phone and Keys and by a Miracle got them back - W Ward Night - First Consejo de Distrito - Matching Suns Ties - Consejo de Lideres with the zone and the mission - Lost in a chess ...

Week 27: New Year, 6 Months, DL

Image
On January 1st I hit 6 months.  It was a bit surreal this week celebrating the New Year as well as my 6 month missionary mark on the same day. To celebrate the new year me and my comp didnt do anything extraordinary, but we woke up at 11:55 and got treated to quite the show from our balcony. Seeing fireworks from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay all at the same time!  Wednesday, we had an awesome experience finding our new friend Carolina and her (soon to be husband) Michel. Prayers were answered. Miracles seen. Friday, I got a call from the AP and was told that I would now serve as District Leader thanks to some emergency transfers that had the whole mission shifting. Soooo that was news for me All in all, miracles are real. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  "Come unto Christ and be Perfected in Him!"  https://www. churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ general-conference/2014/04/ bear-up-their-burdens-with- ease?lang=eng Fire Bendar Talk!
